Editorial policy

The rundowns follow fixed rules, applied the same way to every event and every desk. This page states them.

Last updated .

What is included

Every news event that the pipeline's sources report and that carries usable report text is included. Nothing is added or left out by hand. Press releases are included when outlets carry them; an event built mostly from newswire press releases is marked as such in the record.

How events are ordered

Within a day, events are ordered by the number of outlets that reported them, then by time. No event is promoted for payment, and no advertiser or subject of an event can change its place.

Summaries and the reports

Each summary is a machine summary of the reports linked under it. It must not add facts that are not in those reports, and it must not take sides; where it does, that is an error we correct. Quotes and figures belong to the outlets that reported them, and the outlet is always named and linked. GetYourBrief does not score events, rate their importance or label their sentiment; its lists order events by how many outlets carried them, which is a count, not a judgement.

Accusations are reported as accusations. A summary never states that a person or company did wrong; it reports the verifiable step and who took it (a lawsuit filed, an inquiry opened, charges brought, a ruling made), marks the accusation as alleged and gives the response when the reports carry one. Summaries carry no opinion in the site's own voice, give no advice and make no predictions about legal, medical or financial outcomes. Private individuals are not named in crime, court, health or other sensitive stories, and minors are never named. Every sentence passes an automated legal-safety screen before it is published (how), and anything the screen cannot make safe is not published: the event then appears only as a neutral entry, its outlets and the links to their reports.

A person or company named on the site can ask for a correction, object to being named, or ask for an event to be withdrawn at legal@getyourbrief.com; a withdrawn sentence, name or event leaves every page within 15 minutes, and corrections are logged (corrections).

What we will not publish

Personal details of private people beyond what the cited reports print; content that the source has withdrawn (on request we remove the link and, if needed, the summary); and any claim presented as GetYourBrief's own finding when it is an outlet's.
